If you’ve been watching the latest series of Love Is Blind: UK, you might have spotted a rather familiar Warwickshire wedding venue on screen — the incredible Ragley Hall.
Having recently photographed a wedding at Ragley myself, it was lovely seeing such a beautiful local venue getting so much attention. And if watching the weddings has led you here while planning your own celebration at Ragley Hall, I thought I’d share a little glimpse into what it’s actually like to photograph a wedding here.
Wedding Photography at Ragley Hall
Set within the Warwickshire countryside near Alcester, Ragley Hall is one of those venues that really does have an incredible backdrop around every corner.
From the moment you arrive, the scale of the house and grounds is impressive, but what I particularly love from a photography perspective is the variety it gives you.
There are the grand, elegant portraits you naturally associate with a stately home wedding, but there are also plenty of opportunities for the relaxed, candid photographs that tell the story of the day.
For me, the best wedding galleries have a mixture of both.
A Relaxed Approach to a Grand Wedding Venue
When I photographed this recent wedding at Ragley Hall, my approach was exactly the same as it is at every wedding I photograph: keeping things relaxed, allowing moments to unfold naturally and giving a little direction when it's actually helpful.
A venue as impressive as Ragley gives us plenty to work with for portraits, so you don't need to spend hours away from your guests having photographs taken.
Instead, I like to find a few beautiful pockets of light and locations around the Hall and take you away for short periods throughout the day. It keeps the photographs feeling natural and means you can get back to enjoying your wedding.
And if being photographed isn't usually your thing, don't worry. Most of my couples tell me exactly the same thing before their wedding.
I'll gently guide you where needed rather than leaving you wondering what to do with your hands, while still keeping everything feeling like you.
Some of My Favourite Places for Wedding Photos at Ragley Hall
One of the things that makes Ragley such a brilliant wedding venue to photograph is the amount of variety without having to travel anywhere.
The front of the Hall and its beautiful stone steps are perfect for those slightly more editorial portraits and really show off the scale of the venue.
Inside, the historic rooms and incredible staircase give a completely different feel and are particularly useful if the weather isn't on our side.
Then there are the gardens and surrounding parkland, which give us the opportunity to create softer, more relaxed photographs away from the grandeur of the house.
I always want the venue to be part of the story without it overpowering the people in the photographs. Years from now, I want you to remember not only how beautiful everything looked, but how it actually felt to be there.
