How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer: A Complete Guide for Warwickshire Couples

Choosing your wedding photographer can feel overwhelming. With so many different styles, packages and prices to compare, it can be difficult to know what really matters and what questions you should be asking before making such an important decision.

Your wedding day will pass by in the blink of an eye. The flowers will eventually fade, the cake will be enjoyed, and the little details you've spent months planning will become memories — but your photographs are what allow you to return to those moments time and time again.

Your wedding photos aren't just about how your day looked; they're about how it felt. The nervous excitement before walking down the aisle, the laughter shared with your favourite people, the quiet moments you didn't even realise were happening, and all the emotions that make your wedding completely unique.

This is why I believe choosing a photographer whose style, approach and personality feel right for you is so important. My approach to wedding photography is centred around creating timeless, authentic images that capture the genuine moments and emotions of your day. I want your photographs to feel just as meaningful years from now as they do when you first receive them — not tied to trends, but a true reflection of your story.

1. Decide what photography style feels like "you"

One of the first things to consider when choosing your wedding photographer is the style of photography that feels most like you as a couple.

Every photographer approaches a wedding day differently. Some create beautifully structured, posed images with lots of direction, while others take a more documentary approach, focusing on the natural moments and emotions as they unfold. Neither style is right or wrong — it’s about finding what feels authentic to you.

Documentary vs posed

Some couples love the idea of perfectly curated portraits and knowing exactly where to stand, while others want to spend as much time as possible enjoying their day with their guests and having their photographer quietly capture the moments happening naturally around them.

My approach sits somewhere in the middle. I believe the best wedding photographs happen when you feel comfortable, relaxed and completely yourselves. I’ll give gentle guidance when you need it (especially if being in front of the camera feels a little daunting!), but I don’t want your wedding day to feel like one long photoshoot.

The laughter, the happy tears, the little glances, the moments between moments — these are often the photographs that become your favourites because they bring you straight back to how the day actually felt.

Natural vs heavily edited

Photography editing styles can vary massively, from bright and bold colours to darker, moodier edits or heavily stylised looks.

Trends will always come and go, but your wedding photographs are something you’ll look back on for decades. For me, the goal is to create images that feel timeless, natural and true to the atmosphere of your day.

I focus on preserving real colours, beautiful skin tones and the details that make your wedding unique, rather than creating an edit that takes over the photograph. Your flowers should look like the flowers you chose, your venue should feel like the place you fell in love with, and your images should feel like a genuine reflection of your wedding.

Timeless vs trendy

It can be tempting to choose a photography style based on what is popular right now, but it’s worth asking yourself: Will I still love these images in 10, 20 or 30 years?

A timeless approach isn't about creating photographs that feel old-fashioned — it’s about creating images that don't become tied to one particular trend or editing style. My aim is to create photographs that feel emotional, authentic and lasting. Images that don't just remind you what your wedding looked like, but remind you exactly how it felt to be there.

2. Don’t just compare prices — compare what’s included

When searching for your wedding photographer, one of the biggest things couples often compare is price. With so many different photographers offering different packages, it can be difficult to understand why prices vary so much and what you are actually receiving for your investment.

The important thing to remember is that wedding photography isn't just about the hours spent taking photographs on your wedding day. It’s the experience, support and care that goes into creating your final collection of memories.

Before booking, I recommend looking beyond the price and asking: What is included? What support will I receive? And will I feel looked after throughout the process?

Here are some things worth considering...

What happens after the wedding?

Some photographers offer lower starting prices but charge separately for things you may expect to be included, such as accessing your digital images, downloading files or receiving printing rights.

I believe your wedding photographs should be simple and stress-free to enjoy. With my collections, your finished images are delivered in a personalised online gallery with high-resolution downloads, no watermarks and full printing rights included. There are no hidden costs or extra charges to access your own memories.

Your gallery is easy to use, can be shared with your friends and family, and allows everyone to relive your wedding day wherever they are.

What support is included before the wedding?

Your photographer should be there to support you long before your wedding day arrives.

From the moment you book, I offer dedicated support, helping with planning, timelines, logistics and any photography questions you may have along the way. I also provide a wedding guide full of helpful tips, advice and exclusive offers to help make planning your day a little easier.

What experience are you investing in?

A wedding photographer isn't just there to take photographs. They help create a calm, relaxed experience on a day that can feel overwhelming.

My approach is centred around making the process as easy and enjoyable as possible — from our first conversation, through to the wedding day itself and receiving your final gallery.

I also offer additional options including pre-wedding photoshoots, beautiful prints, albums and 35mm film photography for couples who want to add something extra and create a collection of memories that feels completely personal to them.

When comparing wedding photographers, the cheapest option isn't always the best value. Look at the full experience, the support you receive and what is included — because your wedding photographs are something you will treasure for a lifetime.

3. Questions to ask your wedding photographer before booking

When choosing your wedding photographer, it’s easy to focus on the photographs themselves — but there are lots of important questions that can help you understand whether a photographer is the right fit for you.

With so many different styles, packages and approaches available, knowing what to ask can make the process much easier and give you confidence in your decision.

Here are some of the key questions I recommend asking before booking:

Do we connect with their photography style?

Every photographer has their own approach, from the way they capture moments to how they edit your final images.

Ask yourself:

  • Do these photographs feel like the kind of memories we want to look back on?
  • Do we love the colours, emotions and storytelling?
  • Does their style feel timeless and authentic to us?

Your wedding photographs should feel like a true reflection of your day, not simply a collection of images that follow the latest trend.

Will we feel comfortable with them?

This is one of the most important questions to ask.

Your photographer will be there during some of the most emotional and personal moments of your wedding day, so choosing someone you feel relaxed around is essential.

If you’re worried about feeling awkward in front of the camera, don’t worry — you’re not alone. Many couples tell me they feel nervous before their wedding, but with the right guidance and a relaxed approach, having your photographs taken can become one of the most enjoyable parts of your day.

What support is included before the wedding?

A great wedding photography experience starts long before the day itself.

Ask:

  • Will they help with timings and planning?
  • Do they offer advice on how photography can fit into your day?
  • Are they available to answer questions along the way?

Having someone who understands weddings and can guide you through the process can make everything feel much easier.

What exactly is included in the package?

Before booking, make sure you understand exactly what you are receiving.

Ask:

  • How many hours of coverage are included?
  • How will my images be delivered?
  • Are digital downloads included?
  • Do I have printing rights?
  • Are there any additional costs?

Transparency is so important. You should feel excited about your photographs, not worried about unexpected costs later.

4. The wedding photography experience: From enquiry to your final gallery

Booking your wedding photographer should feel exciting, not overwhelming. I believe the experience should be just as enjoyable as the photographs themselves, which is why I keep the process simple, personal and supportive from beginning to end.

Here’s what you can expect when working with me:

1. Enquire and check availability

The first step is to get in touch and tell me all about your wedding plans. I’ll check my availability for your date and send over all the information you need to see if we could be the right fit.

[Check availability for your wedding date →]

2. A relaxed, no-obligation chat

If your date is available, we’ll arrange a relaxed call to chat through your plans, get to know each other and discuss what you’re looking for from your wedding photography.

This is a chance for you to ask any questions, talk through package options and make sure you feel completely comfortable before making any decisions. There’s absolutely no pressure — it’s simply about seeing if we’re the right fit.

3. Secure your date

Once you decide you’d love me to capture your wedding, securing your date is simple. A signed contract and 20% booking fee will reserve your wedding date, and from there your photography journey begins.

4. Support, planning and preparation

From booking until your wedding day, I’ll be here to support you throughout the process.

I’ll provide guidance, answer questions, help with timings and logistics, and share advice to make sure your photography feels relaxed and fits naturally into your day.

You’ll also receive my wedding guide, filled with helpful tips, planning advice and exclusive offers to help you along the way.

5. Your wedding day

This is where the magic happens.

My approach is relaxed, natural and focused on capturing your day as it truly unfolds. I want you to spend your wedding day enjoying every moment with the people you love — not feeling like you’re constantly being pulled away for photographs.

I’ll be there to capture the emotions, the laughter and all the little moments you might not even notice happening, while also helping wherever I can. Whether that’s calming nerves, fixing a buttonhole or offering a little guidance when needed, I’m there for you — not just there to take photographs.

6. Sneak peeks the next day

I know how exciting it feels to relive your wedding day, which is why I send a selection of sneak peeks the very next day.

It’s a little glimpse into your gallery while the memories are still so fresh, giving you something special to look back on while you wait for your full collection.

7. Your final gallery

Around 4–6 weeks after your wedding (often sooner!), you’ll receive your beautifully presented online gallery.

Your gallery is completely personalised, easy to use and simple to share with your family and friends. You’ll be able to download your images in high resolution, with no watermarks and full printing rights included.

8. Forever — download, print and enjoy

Your photographs are yours to keep forever.

Whether you choose to download your images, create prints to display at home, or add a beautiful album or keepsake USB box to your collection, your photographs are there to help you relive your wedding day for years to come.

Because long after the flowers have faded and the celebrations are over, your photographs are what allow you to return to those moments again and again.

5. Choosing a photographer you can trust

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so choosing someone you trust to capture it is incredibly important.

Experience matters. It means knowing how to anticipate moments, handle different lighting situations, keep things calm when plans change and capture the emotions of your day naturally without you having to worry about a thing.

I have over 10 years of experience as a wedding photographer, alongside a degree in photography and 8 years of experience teaching and lecturing photography. This background has helped me develop not only my technical skills, but also my ability to guide couples, understand light and create photographs that feel timeless and authentic.

I’m proud to have built a trusted reputation with couples and venues, with glowing reviews from past clients and recognition from within the wedding industry. I’m a recommended supplier at venues including Ettington Park Hotel, Warwick House, Kelmarsh Hall, Bourton Hall, Blackwell Grange, Cidermill Barns and Lapstone Barn, and I was honoured to receive the Hitched.co.uk Wedding Award in 2025.

My work has also been featured in publications including ELLE Magazine, which has been a wonderful recognition of the work I love creating for my couples.

Ultimately, choosing your photographer is about finding someone whose style you love and someone you feel completely comfortable trusting with your memories.

6. Choose a photographer who makes you feel comfortable

One of the most important things to consider when choosing your wedding photographer is how you feel around them.

Your photographer will be by your side throughout some of the most meaningful moments of your wedding day — from the excitement and nerves of getting ready, to the emotional moments during your ceremony, and all the celebrations afterwards.

A beautiful gallery is important, but feeling relaxed and comfortable enough to be yourselves in front of the camera is what allows those genuine moments to happen.

Many couples tell me they feel nervous about having their photographs taken, and that’s completely normal. You don’t need to know how to pose or feel like you’re naturally confident in front of a camera. That’s my job.

My approach is relaxed and supportive. I’ll offer gentle guidance when you need it, but I’ll never turn your wedding day into a photoshoot. The most meaningful images usually come from simply allowing you to enjoy the moment while I capture the laughter, emotions and little interactions that happen naturally.

When choosing your photographer, ask yourself:

  • Do we feel comfortable talking to them?
  • Do we trust them to guide us?
  • Can we imagine having them around us on our wedding day?
  • Do their photographs feel genuine and like something we would love to have?

Finding someone whose personality and approach feels right is just as important as loving their portfolio.
